Don’t let the dog days of winter get to you. All of the holiday festivities are over and that can make winter seem long and cold.
Interestingly enough I talked to someone from Florida today who hates the hot sun and would take Utah’s shady winters in a heartbeat. That is totally not me….I thrive in the sunshine. If any of you are like me and have a hard time when January rolls around….this is for you.
Here are some ways to brighten up the rest of your winter.
1- Rearrange the Furniture.
A great way to get a new perspective after the Christmas decorations are all put away, is to rearrange a room. Try shopping the house to switch things up. I do this often, and it is my favorite.
2- Try Some New Makeup.
Maskara.com is hands on the best blog about how to do your makeup.
This last one is on my must have list!
3- Go Window Shopping Just Because.
Sometimes when I feel like I have been in the house too much I get a babysitter and go walk through the mall. I don’t feel like I need to go on a shopping spree to have fun. I love to just see what all of the emerging trends are in person!
4- Take a Winter Walk With Loved Ones or Go Sledding.
There is something about sledding down a hill in the snow that brings out the kid in me. Being freezing cold at the end makes it all worth it!
5- Paint something.
I found this beautiful striped dining room via pinterest. Let me know if you know whose home this is. LOVE.
My favorite something to paint is walls. Try stripes, stencils, or just one color. Paint can really change the mood of a room….and your mood. In our old house the front room had brown walls. I hated the darkness on the walls and painted them mustard yellow. It was so bright and cheerful in the winter time. Soothing colors are great too….choose whites and light greys. Even painting one wall will take you less than two hours from start to finish.
6- Make a goal just for the month….when you hit it, reward yourself!
My goal this month is to have as few sugar cave-ins as possible, and eat more fruits and veggies instead.
If I meet my goal I will be buying this dress. I will do anything for a new dress!
7- Dream of That Swimsuit Waiting For You in The Hot Sun.

8- Try A New Hairdo-A-Day
Twistmepretty has lots of really cute hairstyles!
9- Take a stay-cation for kicks and giggles.
Our favorite place to stay is The Marriot City Center in Salt Lake City.
10- Surprise Your Kids/Hubby With Lunch.
Once in a blue moon I surprise my kids with McDonalds at school. It totally makes their day!
11- Turn out the lights at dinner and use candles.
We like to use our collection of mason jars and tea lights.
12- Read A Good Book.
One for yourself ,or to read with your kids before bed. It gives you both something to look forward to, one chapter at a time.
13- Raid your closet for great new outfits.
On the days you don’t really feel like getting dressed because it is too cold to go anywhere, get dressed up just because. You will feel better and happier guaranteed.
14- Open up those windows and let as much light in as possible!
15- Take Care of Your Spiritual Health.
It is much easier to have a positive outlook on life when you nourish your spirit.
I read the Book of Mormon or Bible, and Pray every day to feel happy.
16- Serve Others
The best way to get outside myself on a gloomy day is to find someone who needs service. It not only makes others happy, but I feel happy inside too.
What do you do to keep life exciting during the Winter in January?
